About Me

My name is Kiersten, and I use They/She pronouns. I am a white, queer, fat, nonbinary therapist. I have chronic illnesses and am temporarily able-bodied. For fun, I am an avid reader, crafter, artist, and plant enthusiast who loves to spend time with loved ones and the outdoors. I love a new food experience, and baking is a newer hobby I am trying.

My practice is deeply rooted in fat liberation and anti-oppression values that shape the way I show up in the therapy room. I believe that returning to the self and returning to the body, in compassionate ways, is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves in a world determined to create separation. The reality in holding marginalized identities can mean that turning to the self might not feel safe or feel possible. Healing those relational and systemic wounds can lead to deeper liberation and ability to access the self. I am a believer in growth in community and think about things from a systemic viewpoint.

My license number is MHCA.MC.61687375

Clinical Journey

Prior to seeking out my master’s degree, I spent years in social service jobs, as well as at a local eating disorder treatment center. I learned so much in these settings not only about clinical care, eating disorders etc but my about myself and my desire to support people in liberating themselves. These experiences solidified my desire to walk with individuals through the experiences of life and create a healing space

Through realizing this about myself I knew I wanted to get my masters degree to further the support I could give. I attended City University of Seattle’s Master’s in Arts of Counseling program and enrolled in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling track. This educational foundation gave me the space to learn and grow into the clinician I am today.

I completed a year-long internship at Pacific Mental Health, where I strengthened the skills I learned in school and further developed as a counselor. I again learned about myself as much as a field and learned how to show up as myself in the therapy room. I stayed at Pacific after my graduation and am still there part time.

I am invested in my continued growth and am currently under the supervision of Laurie Gutierrez Ganberg (LW60673320). Under their supervision, I am continuing to learn about psychodynamic work, parts work, and integrating somatic concepts. I also am learning from them about how to have a business that is liberation oriented, which is one of my main values in this work.
